CALS Researcher, Toh Ding Jun, completes a One-Month Visiting Lectureship at Thammasat University Faculty of Law

July 8, 2024

From 10 June to 12 July 2024, CALS Researcher, Toh Ding Jun was invited by Thammasat University Faculty of Law to convene a summer module (with credit) titled ‘LB169/269 An Introduction to Singapore Law’.

Held over the course of five weeks, the module marks the first time that a non-Singaporean institution is running an English language course to doctrinally study the common law as autochthonously developed in Singapore. Together with Samantha Tang (NUS Law Lecturer and CALS Academic Fellow), A/P Dr Alan Koh (CALS Academic Fellow), former CATPLI members Law Yan An and Kimmie Tan, A/P Dr Ronnakorn Bunmee (TU Law), and Dr Keerakiat Pratai (TU Law), the module sought to introduce TU Law students to the basic concepts of Singapore’s contract, tort, company, corporate insolvency, competition, tax and criminal laws. As testimony to its popularity, the module had an enrolment of 68 students.

As part of his one-month stint in Thailand, Ding Jun also engaged with various insolvency and restructuring professionals at a panel discussion jointly hosted by Baker McKenzie Thailand and Thammasat University Faculty of Law.  Together with Paralee Techajongjintana, Yada Yuwataepakorn, Karnsuda Oue-amornrat, the panel had a lively discussion on Thailand and Singapore’s respective experiences in handling cross-border insolvencies.
