The Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS)’s Virtual Roundtable on Asian Law (ViRAL) session on 10 May 2024 centred on Ridwanul Hoque and Rokeya Chowdhury (eds)’s book, “A History of the Constitution of Bangladesh: The Founding, Development, and Way Ahead” (Routledge, 2023). Joined by our Guest-of-Honour, Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed from the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and panellist Cynthia Farid (The University of Hong Kong), the editors Ridwanul Hoque (Kent Institute Australia, Melbourne) and Rokeya Chowdhury (New Era Immigration Law Firm) discussed the history, strengths and potential development of the Constitution of Bangladesh. The panel looked into Bangladesh’s 50 years of constitutional developments and whether the constitutional practices of Bangladesh are reflective of the hopes and expectations of its constituents, and the future developments for Bangladesh’s constitutional journey. The session was moderated by Adjunct Professor Kevin YL Tan (National University of Singapore).
