CAUPLI Reciprocal Workshop 2025 Opening Ceremony
The Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS) is delighted that its workshop series titled ‘An Introduction to the Basics of Indonesian Contract Law’ has gotten off to a strong start. Organised by law students from Universitas Gadjah Mada, the first session was held online on Saturday, 23 August 2025, and was attended by 39 law students from the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Management University. This workshop forms a part of the Centre for Asian Legal Studies – Universitas Gadjah Mada Fakultas Hukum Peer Learning Initiative (CAUPLI), which is in its second run this year.
The opening ceremony was graced by CALS Deputy Director, Prof Dian Shah, and the Vice Dean for UGM Law, Prof Adrianto Dwi Nugroho. There was much common ground in their respective speeches, a testimony to how the initiative has benefitted both Singaporean and Indonesian law students. As noted by Prof Shah, the workshop is part of CALS’ broader initiative to heighten Singaporean law students’ appreciation for Asian civil law. Prof Nugroho further observed that the programme has been a “wonderful experience” for UGM’s students and expressed hope that it will continue to run for many more years to come.
This sentiment is shared by student project directors from both NUS Law and UGM Law. Nahlia Riska Priyantari from UGM Law shared that the workshop was an invaluable opportunity where students gather to share and discuss Singaporean law and Indonesian law. Iain Lin from NUS Law concurred, adding that CAUPLI stood out to him due to two other distinguishing points – allowing students to stand at the other side of the classroom by being peer tutors and make lasting memories with peers from the region.
Indeed, students from both institutions have worked hard to ensure that the workshop is a good experience for all involved. While the first session is over, there are still two sessions in this workshop series, both of which will take place in-person at the National University of Singapore’s Bukit Timah Campus on Saturday, 6 September 2025, from 10am to 4pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
