Visiting Researcher, Mr Philip Nedelcu, from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, presented his working paper “Local Government and the Changing Urban-Rural Interplay” at the CALS Work-in-Progress Seminar Series (CALS WiP series) via Zoom on 23 April 2020.  

 

The 3-part presentation featured an overview of the research project, followed by the German model of (federalist) government that puts a strong emphasis on local government and its institutional independence. The last segment was an exploration of case studies of citizens’ participation in urban planning in Germany with a comparison of differences between the German legal framework and Singapore and other Asian jurisdictions. The seminar was moderated by Professor Andrew Harding and featured a lively discussion with seminar participants at the end.
