Dr Vivien Chen is a lecturer at Monash Business School. Her PhD thesis examines the Malaysian corporate regulatory framework, enforcement practices and the implications of political economy for the effectiveness of law in safeguarding minority shareholders’ interests. Her research explores gaps in the regulatory framework which have allowed corruption, such as the 1MDB debacle, to be carried out by kleptocrats through the use of the corporate form.
Vivien’s research interests include financial consumer protection and she investigates harmful financial products together with colleagues at Melbourne Law School. Prior to this, she has worked at Melbourne Law School and the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. She has also advised on corporate and commercial matters as a solicitor at law firms in Kuala Lumpur.
