Constitutional Law in Malaysia

by Assistant Professor Jaclyn Neo & Adjunct Professor Kevin Tan

This research project aims to produce an authoritative textbook for constitutional law in Malaysia. It builds upon an existing Constitutional Law in Malaysia and Singapore textbook currently authored by Kevin Tan and Thio Li-ann. As developments in constitutional law have diverged significantly in the two countries, two texts will now be produced with each focusing on one jurisdiction. This text will a broad overview of constitutional law in Malaysia as well as examine the political and social context and influences in the development of the law. A research question animating this project is the extent to which Malaysia has created an indigenous, autochthonous system of constitutional law, and what impact this has for the underlying foundational values of the constitutional system.
