Shareholder Power

(a joint project with the NUS Centre for Law & Business)
by Associate Professor Dan W. Puchniak

This research project on Shareholder Power arises out of a collaboration between NUS Law (the Centre for Asian Legal Studies; and Centre for Law & Business) and Vanderbilt Law School (the Vanderbilt Law and Business Program).

The conference in Singapore held on 6 & 7 March 2014, aimed to bring together leading scholars from around the world to discuss the issue of Shareholder Power from a variety of perspectives. It builds upon the success of an earlier conference organized by Professor Randall S. Thomas, which was held at Vanderbilt Law School in September 2013.

The research produced at the two conferences will be published as a Research Handbook on Shareholder Power co-edited by Professor Jennifer Hill and Professor Randall S. Thomas and published by Edward Elgar in 2014. Two of the Chapters in the Handbook focusing on Asia were published by NUS Law Faculty: Luh Luh Lan & Umakanth Varottil, "Shareholder Empowerment in Controlled Companies: The Case of Singapore", available at https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2695702; and, Dan W. Puchniak, "Multiple Faces of Shareholder Power in Asia: Complexity Revealed", available at https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2400958. The European Corporate Governance Institute has partnered with NUS Law and Vanderbilt Law School to promote this research project.
