This research is funded by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS).

This project, which is led by Professor Bruce Aronson (Hitotsubashi University) and Professor Joongi Kim (Yonsei University), and involves significant contributions from several NUS Law faculty members, aims to produce a textbook on comparative corporate law and governance in Asia. In the process of producing this textbook, this project seeks to:

  1. deepen the understanding of the law, finance and policy that shape corporate governance in leading Asian jurisdictions; and,
  2. offer a comprehensive comparative framework of the corporate governance of large, publicly listed companies in the major Asian markets through an analysis of common issues and emerging trends.

The general approach is to apply a global theoretical framework to illuminate fundamental issues shaping corporate governance in Asia, offer commentaries in treatises and scholarship, and posit questions and problems for academic inquiry by Asia specialists who are teaching comparative corporate governance.

The first conference for this textbook project was held at Hitotsubashi University and the second conference was held at NUS Law (organized by the Centre for Asian Legal Studies). The conferences have produced a draft textbook on Comparative Corporate Law in Asia, which will be published by Cambridge University Press in 2018.
