Asian Law Junior Faculty Workshop (AsLJFW)
The Asian Law Junior Faculty Workshop (AsLJFW) was established in 2018 to attract leading research from younger scholars on topics related to Asian jurisdictions, and to provide a platform for them to receive critical feedback on their research from established Asian law scholars.
The inaugural Workshop convened on 13 June 2019 at the NUS Faculty of Law (Bukit Timah Campus) and was received with great enthusiasm amongst junior law scholars in the region and around the world. 34 finalists were chosen from more than 300 paper submissions from scholars from more than 40 countries. From these finalists, 8 highly promising junior scholars were eventually selected to present at the workshop.
The 2nd Workshop took place from 11 to 13 January 2021 and was held in a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the nearly 100 submissions, 21 Junior Scholars were invited to submit their long papers for review. Following an intensive round of reviews by a diverse committee of leading Asian law scholars, 10 promising Junior Scholars were selected to present their outstanding papers at the Workshop.

About the AsLJFW:
The Asian Law Junior Faculty Workshop (AsLJFW) was established in 2018 to allow outstanding younger scholars who work on legal topics related to Asian jurisdictions to present their work to their peers and receive critical feedback from established Asian law scholars. Submissions are typically invited from junior faculty members on any topic that relates to one or more Asian jurisdiction(s), as well as work that compares a topic in one or more Asian jurisdiction(s) with non-Asian jurisdiction(s). Aside from giving younger scholars the opportunity to receive feedback from eminent scholars in their field, the AsLJFW also aims to showcase emerging scholarship in Asian Law and build a lasting network among junior scholars as well as between junior scholars and senior scholars in the hope that this will spur future developments and future collaborations among them.

About the Organiser:
This Workshop is organised by the Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS). CALS was established in February 2012 to create a significant forum in Asia for the research and discussion of legal issues in Asia from Asian perspectives and with Asian priorities. The Centre aims to move the centre of gravity in Asian legal studies to Singapore. It seeks to define Asian legal studies broadly as encompassing at least four research orientations: (1) single jurisdiction studies within Asia; (2) intra-Asia comparative studies; (3) inter-Asia comparative studies; and (4) Asia-inflected legal theory. Through our work here and in collaboration with our research partners, the Centre serves as a dynamic intellectual hub for Asian legal studies in Singapore, for the region, and the global academic community.
