Dr Lisa-Marie Ross is a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Banking & Finance Law (CBFL) at the National University of Singapore. She received her first law degree from the University of Kiel specialising in Banking and Finance Law and her Master of Laws degree in International and Comparative Law from the National University of Singapore. Lisa obtained her PhD in the field of sustainable finance disclosure regulation, taxonomies, and international standards with a comparative legal study between the European Union and Singapore at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. The publication of her thesis is forthcoming in 2024.  Lisa is a trained banker and has worked in several banking and lecturing positions.

She is a regular speaker at international academic and industry conferences and is publishing her research in leading international academic journals and books. Her book chapter, “Regulatory Challenges and Opportunities in Web 3: Navigating the Decentralized Landscape” in Pooja Lekhi, Guneet Kaur (eds), Concepts, Technologies, Challenges, and the Future of Web 3 was highlighted by the publisher, IGI Global, as the top 1 chapter of the book. Lisa’s research focus is on comparative legal studies between Asia and Europe in the area of international commercial law. Her research interests are sustainable finance regulation, environmental & climate change law and regulation, ESG and corporate governance, shareholder activism, investor protection, digital assets regulation, and international commercial arbitration. Currently, she is working on projects at the intersection of corporate governance, investor protection and sustainability.

Lisa joined NUS Law in 2021, she was formerly a full-time Researcher at the Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS), and the Centre for Banking & Finance Law (CBFL) NUS Law.

Research Project

The Intersection of Corporate Governance and Investor Protection in the Sphere of Sustainability

Lisa’s current research analyses the intersection and interlinkages of corporate governance and investor protection in the sphere of sustainability. Her project aims to explore as to when and how regulatory rules safeguarding investor protection in the context of sustainability are impacting corporate governance directions. On the contrary, it aims to assesses how corporate governance elements (such as board size, board independence, board diversity, audit committee, Corporate Social Responsibility Committee) are impacting the quality and quantity of corporate sustainability reporting.
