What if you can practice independently to provide first-class dispute resolution services in collaboration with other accomplished practitioners and yet be free to calibrate your own work-life balance and choose work you like? Come join us for an introduction to the Chambers model of practice, where dispute resolution lawyers set up independent practices of their own and engage in work that they are passionate about. At this one-of-a-kind session, you will hear from David Grief, who has had decades of experience facilitating such independent practices, Lee Ji En (CEO, Chambers Lab) as well as well-known independent practitioners (KC Lye, Rachel Low and Wong Thai Yong) who have built successful practices of their very own.

About the Speakers

David Grief
Chief Executive Officer
David Grief International Consultancy Pte. Ltd.

David works with independent disputes practitioners internationally on both their personal and professional development, building their profiles across the world and helps lawyers, governments and in-house counsel find the right lawyer or arbitrator for their cases.

Embarking on a mission to grow the independent bar in Singapore almost 10 years ago, David was one of the architects of Duxton Hill Chambers; the first set of chambers established in Singapore consisting only of independent practitioners.

Before moving to Singapore, David was the Senior Clerk at a leading barristers’ chambers in London. Through decades of experience as one of the first-generation modern Senior Clerks at the English Commercial Bar, he can identify the right mix of skillsets and personalities required in building successful legal teams for all sorts of disputes.

Lee Ji En
Chief Executive Officer, Chambers Lab
NUS Alumnus

Ji En helps disputes lawyers focus on what matters – the practice of law. He co-founded Chambers Lab, a startup that provides lawyers with best-in-class support on business development, legal technology and other practice-related requirements. Prior to this, Ji En was a disputes lawyer at a global law firm in Singapore.

Ji En was the founding Deputy Chairperson of the Asia-Pacific Legal Innovation and Technology Association (ALITA). He often speaks on topics at the intersection of law, business, and technology and teaches Management of Legal Practice at the University of Malaya’s Faculty of Law. He is also the Vice Chair of the Next Generation Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association.

KC Lye
Independent Arbitrator and Counsel,
NUS Alumnus

With more than 20 years of experience as a dispute resolution specialist, KC Lye began his practice as a commercial litigator at the Singapore Bar and later spent many years as the head of the dispute resolution department of a major international firm in Singapore. KC now practices as independent arbitrator and counsel.

 

Rachel Low
Nusa Chambers, NUS alumna

Rachel has over a decade of experience in litigation and international arbitration. She regularly collaborates with local and international law firms, and frequently assists King’s Counsel and Senior Counsel, on complex, high-value disputes in Singapore and internationally.

 

Wong Thai Yong
Nusa Chambers, NUS alumnus

Thai Yong is a litigator who handles a broad range of disputes, including commercial, criminal, family, and constitutional matters. He believes in providing affordable, yet attentive and conscientious legal services to anyone in need of the same.
