Description

Synopsis

In this informal talk, Leonard Ng (NUS Law Class of 1994) will chat about his 25 years at Sidley Austin’s London office and give his perspective on what makes a successful career in private practice overseas. He will share what he thinks helps a young lawyer stand out, particularly in a large legal market such as the UK’s, and his experience of being an outsider twice over (as a foreigner, and at a US law firm in London).

Given Leonard’s area of expertise (financial regulation), he will also discuss what he sees as the pressing matters of the day, including whether the regulatory framework established since the global financial crisis has achieved its objectives, and the how policymakers are dealing with current evolving issues that can be in part socio-political (e.g. sustainable finance/ESG), and technological (e.g. cryptoasset regulation).
