Synopsis

The rise of regulations globally and accompanying cross-border complexities,
has fuelled the need for compliance professionals-both external and in-house. Combating financial crime and market misconduct have become key elements of good governance, whether in the financial services or other industries. Large corporations in almost any industry have important compliance officer roles as they navigate and comply with a host of international regulations. The compliance officer’s role has also evolved and in several sectors/organisations, they sit within senior management or report to senior management. A legal background is an asset in a compliance career given the lawyer’s skill in reading, understanding and applying laws and regulations. It is not uncommon to find compliance officers with law degrees and/or legal practice histories.

As this trend continues, come and find out what it takes to be a compliance
professional and how your legal training could present opportunities!
