Synopsis
Ms Diane Tan, Deputy Director-General (Security) of the International Affairs Division of AGC, will share insights and her experiences as an officer of the AGC, whose mission is to be the guardian of public interest and the steward of the rule of law. She will share insights into her experience starting as a Deputy Public Prosecutor with the Criminal Justice Division before embarking on a journey in international law at the International Affairs Division. Through this, students will have the opportunity to learn about being a lawyer in the public service.

Diane graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Jurisprudence) from the University of Oxford, and obtained a Master of Laws (International Legal Studies) degree from New York University, both on a Public Service Commission Overseas Merit Scholarship.
She started her legal career as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Criminal Justice Division of AGC. She joined the International Affairs Division of AGC in 2009. She was then posted to the Ministry of Law to handle international legal policy work at the International Legal Division in 2013, working closely with other Ministries and government agencies to protect Singapore’s interests on international legal issues. She was appointed Acting Director of the International Legal Division in 2016.
Diane re-joined the International Affairs Division in 2017 and was appointed as Deputy Director-General (Security) with effect from 1 July 2022. As DDG (Security), Diane oversees the Law of the Sea, Aviation, International Criminal Law, Security Proliferation, International Human Rights Law and International Environmental Law workstreams in IAD.
