About the Speakers
Tan Kiat Pheng
Chief Prosecutor,
Crime Division, Attorney-General’s Chambers
Kiat Pheng graduated from the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Law in 1993. He completed his pupillage in the private sector before joining the Singapore Legal Service in 1994 as Assistant Director of the Legal Aid Bureau. He was then posted to the Insolvency and Public Trustee’s Office in 1998 as Assistant Official Assignee, Assistant Official Receiver and Assistant Public Trustee. Kiat Pheng joined the Crime Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers in 2001 and was appointed as Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Financial & Technology Crimes Division in 2015 before taking on the role of Chief Prosecutor of the Crime Division in 2019.
Kiat Pheng will give an overview of the structure and function of the Crime Division in the Attorney-General’s Chambers and share his 30-year experience as a Legal Service Officer, in particular, a Deputy Public Prosecutor.
Jeffrey Sim
Chief of Staff, Singapore Legal Service
Jeffrey graduated from the NUS Faculty of Law and was in private practice for10 years before he joined the Singapore Legal Service in 2000, where he served in various judicial and legal positions in the then Subordinate Courts, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Environment Agency and the Attorney-General’s Chambers. He was appointed Chief of Staff, Singapore Legal Service in Jan 2022 when the Legal Service was reconstituted.
Jeffrey will give an overview of the Legal Service, including the broad spectrum of challenging and interesting work that officers can expect to handle, the professional training and career development opportunities available to all officers, and the opportunities for appointments and internships in the Service.
