About the Panellists

Mr. Jonathan Choo
Partner, Allen & Gledhill LLP

Jonathan specialises in non-contentious shipping matters as well as domestic and cross-border banking transactions, with a particular focus in the maritime and offshore oil and gas sectors.

He primarily acts for local and foreign banks, borrowers, shipping trusts and equity investors in lending, leasing and debt restructuring matters. He also regularly acts for shipowners in various non-contentious shipping matters relating to ship sale and purchase, charterparties and shipbuilding contracts.

Jonathan joined the A&G in 2008 after he was called to the Singapore Bar. He has been an active member of the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and currently holds the positions of Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the SSA’s Young Executives Group Committee and is a Committee Member of the SSA’s Shipping Finance Services Committee.

In addition, at the nomination of the Singapore Government, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has appointed Jonathan as an IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador for Singapore since 2021.

 

Ms. Su Yin Anand
Head of Shipping, South32

Su Yin is currently the Commodity Manager for freight at Australian mining house, South32, where she is accountable for developing freight strategy across the group. Aside from managing the chartering and freight operations, she is also involved in developing sustainability strategy for the freight desk.

Outside of work, Su Yin co-founded the Maritime Pitch Challenge, Captain’s Table, an annual pitch competition developed to power the future of maritime through connecting innovators in the startup space. She is also the co-Chair of the All Onboard Alliance, an initiative of the Global Maritime Forum aimed to increase DEI in the maritime industry.

Su Yin is an alumnus of NUS law having graduated with her LLB in 2003. She was called to the Singapore bar in 2003 and Hong Kong bar in 2010. She has 14 years of experience in private practice in Singapore and Hong Kong and was a Partner with Ince in Hong Kong prior to making her move to the commercial space. She has represented shipowners, charterers and financing banks in litigation and arbitration ranging from charterparty to mortgage enforcement disputes.

 

Ms. Tan Wan Jing
Team Leader, Claims Gard (Singapore) Pte. Ltd

Wan Jing is a qualified Singapore lawyer. She has Bachelor of Laws and Masters (Maritime Law) degrees from the National University of Singapore. Immediately prior joining Gard she worked with Oon & Bazul LLP in Singapore, with a focus on maritime, shipping and trade disputes, arbitration and litigation. Wan Jing joined Gard’s Defence / Charterers & Traders Claims Asia team as a Lawyer in 2014 and recently moved to the P&I and Marine Claims team as Team Leader. She assists Gard’s Owners and Charterers Members and Charterer & Trader clients on legal and P&I disputes and claims in South East Asia, India and Australia.
