In Residence
Richard Kilpatrick is Associate Professor of Business Law at the College of Charleston, School of Business, in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, where he teaches courses in commercial law and international business. Richard has published academic journal articles and book chapters exploring a broad range of maritime and international commercial law issues, and he regularly presents his work at conferences and invited lectures around the world. He also previously taught and practiced maritime law in Chicago, and he spent time in residence at CML as a Visiting Research Fellow (July – December 2017) and as an Academic Visitor (July – August 2018). Richard holds a Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School, and he is a member of the Illinois bar and Maritime Law Association of the United States.
Richard was a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at CML from 16 October to 8 December 2023. During this period, he conducted research on contemporary war risk insurance and sanctions compliance challenges. He also provided an in-house presentation to CML staff and associates and deliver a downtown CPD seminar.
