About the Event

In this seminar, Dr Sanam Saidova will evaluate the experience of the UNIDROIT Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment 2001. The Convention is an international legal regime for the creation, registration and enforcement of ‘international interests’ in the aircraft, railway, space, mining, agriculture and construction equipment. The financing and leasing of these types of equipment, which can be accomplished by a secured loan, conditional sale or lease, can be a risky investment. The Convention seeks to reduce the creditors’ risks and increase the availability of financing of such objects. After exploring the Convention’s defining features, such as the concept of an international interest and the International Registry, Dr Saidova will critically examine the Convention’s remedial regime.

About the Speaker

Dr Sanam Saidova is an Assistant Professor in the School of Law, University of Nottingham. Dr Saidova has a PhD from the University of Nottingham, an LLM in International Commercial Law from the University of East Anglia, a Master’s degree from the Tashkent Institute of Law (Uzbekistan), a Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the University of Birmingham and a Bachelor’s degree in law from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (Uzbekistan). Dr Sanam Saidova specialises in English and international commercial and contract law. Her research and teaching interests lie in the law of contract, secured transactions, personal property, international trade finance and sale of goods. One of Dr Saidova’s particular areas of expertise concerns the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment. She has published extensively on this subject, including a monograph published by Hart Publishing in 2018.
