Description

The Port Side is a student-focused initiative established by the Centre for Maritime Law (CML). We are delighted and grateful to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for facilitating this visit to Raffles Lighthouse on Pulau Satumu. Close to 50 participants consisting of undergraduate and graduate students joined us on this exciting excursion. The event started with an immersive tour of the Singapore Maritime Gallery at South Pier, where  students were treated to a interactive exhibition which provided an overview of Singapore’s history as a trading port. The exhibition also provided a glimpse of modern day port activities, maritime traffic and cargo movement.

The hour long ferry ride to the lighthouse wowed our passengers as they excitedly snapped photos of the VLCCs, cargo ships and tugs within vicinity. The highlight of the trip was when students got a rare look inside the glass-panelled dome of the Lighthouse which is still in operations today.

It was a truly exciting day for all present!
