Description

The Centre for Maritime Law (CML) of the National University of Singapore is organising a two-day Colloquium to discuss key aspects of the international Arrest Conventions signed in 1952 and 1999. Arrest of ships is one of the most distinctive features of maritime law. Ship arrest provides a powerful and effective means of enforcing maritime claims in rem, obtaining sufficient security, and preserving property pending substantive proceedings. This Colloquium brings together leading international and local maritime law experts to examine the most significant legal and policy issues and practical problems arising from the Arrest Conventions, and the direct implementation or indirect “translation” of the Arrest Conventions into domestic legal systems.
