Description

There is a symbiotic relationship between the emergence of Singapore as a forum for the resolution of maritime disputes and the growth of the maritime industry in Singapore. There is no one size fits all method to resolve all types of maritime disputes and a tool kit of methods is made available. To what extent have arbitration, litigation and mediation been honed to make Singapore a conducive and appropriate forum to support the maritime industry in Singapore? How do the Singapore International Commercial Court, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration, the Singapore International Mediation Centre interface with the other institutions? To what extent is the legal environment supportive of having Singapore as a centre for the resolution of maritime disputes? This lecture will explore these issues.
