The Centre for Maritime Law (CML) welcomed The Rt Honorable Lord Justice Gross from the Court of Appeal of England and Wales as the Keynote Speaker of our 3rd Singapore Shipping Law Forum, ‘Shipping Law; Shipping Lawyers and Admiralty Courts: The Future – The Next 5-10 Years’ which was held on 9 October 2019 at The Westin, Singapore. Lord Justice Gross’s presentation paper is available online as part of CML’s Working Paper Series.

Speaking to 100 invited guests from both the shipping and law fraternity, Lord Justice Gross had described shipping as the lifeblood of the international economy and discussed the importance of preservation of underlying realities, values and know-how in an industry where change is the constant. He observed that the LOF salvage agreement is increasingly being sidelined from salvage contracts and urged a long-term view amongst the industry players to ensure the survival of a sustainable salvage industry. He also highlighted the cooperation and sharing of best practices between courts with the establishment of SIFoCC.

As part of his visit, Lord Justice Gross also conducted seminar for our Maritime Law students on Conditions and Innominate Terms.
