Taco van der Valk read law at Leiden University. In 1990 he started his professional career at Nauta Dutilh, and in October 2001 he joined AKD.
Taco’s practice mainly focuses on contentious and non-contentious dry shipping work (bills of lading, charter parties, cargo claims, ship’s agency). He has specialist knowledge about the arrest of ships and aircraft, complex transnational litigation (limitation of shipowners’ liability, insolvency and arbitration) and the international law of the sea.
In addition to his legal practice Taco was the secretary to the board of editors of the Dutch maritime and transport law journal, Schip en Schade, for almost twenty years. He also regularly lectures on maritime and transport law issues.
