Pro Bono Projects

The Centre and NUS student groups have created and successfully executed over 1,500 Pro Bono projects for a variety of organisations, in a variety of modalities, and spanning various legal matters.

Some of the Centre's past and current projects include:

Legal Awareness Talks – We cover a wide range of topics, and offer talks to social workers, caregivers, and members of the public.

In-Person Deputyship Applications– We work with organisations to assist their members to make Court applications for deputyship.

Aid-in-Person Mitigation Plea – The State Courts has partnered NUS Law Centre for Pro Bono & Clinical Legal Education to run a new pro bono project called the Aid-in-Person Mitigation Plea Project. The main beneficiaries of this project are accused persons who have indicated that they wish to plead guilty to their charge(s), but are not able to afford to hire their own counsel, and who also otherwise do not qualify for other sources of free legal aid (eg. under the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme). NUS Law students then come in to assist such an accused person to interview him or her, and thereafter draft a mitigation plea for the accused person to use during his or her sentencing mention.

Migrant Worker Issues – Our student pro bono groups and the Centre work with different organisations on migrant worker issues.

Research, Publications and Collaborations – We have collaborated on research and publications with different agencies and organisations, and are always happy to collaborate on meaningful and sustainable projects.
