Both SEP and EP students should follow this guide closely to ensure the successful completion of their exchange.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t\tApplication to Partner University\n\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"javascript:void(0);\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-0\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-0\">A. Partner University Application<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-0\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-0\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>After accepting the SEP or EP offer, you will receive, in due course,\u00a0 information about submitting your application to the Partner University (PU) from the Law Student Exchange team. As the timeline may differ slightly for each PU, you should check your NUS email regularly for updates. It is imperative that you adhere to the PU&#8217;s deadlines and submit your application with all required documents on time.<\/p>\n<p>Students should expect to submit their latest academic transcript to the PUs as part of the application process. Students are advised to maintain their grades after receiving their SEP\/EP offer.<\/p>\n<p>Upon completion of PU application, please inform us at <a href=\"mailto:lawsep@nus.edu.sg\">lawsep@nus.edu.sg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Please retain any relevant emails or screenshots. These may be useful in the unlikely event of server errors.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"javascript:void(0);\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-1\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\">B. Acceptance by PU and Update of Student Status at NUS<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-1\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Once the PU accepts you as an exchange student, <b>it is important that you inform the Law Exchange Team at <\/b><b><a href=\"mailto:lawsep@nus.edu.sg\">lawsep@nus.edu.sg<\/a><\/b> and<b>\u00a0<\/b><u><b>attach<\/b><\/u><b> a copy of the acceptance letter\/email. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Law Student Exchange team will then update your student status in NUS to appropriately reflect that you are away on student exchange for the relevant semester. This has important implications to your enrolment status and course registration.<\/p>\n<p>If you receive confirmation of your acceptance from PU <u>before<\/u> the end of law course registration exercise, you <u>need not<\/u> participate in it for the semester you are away on exchange.<\/p>\n<p>If you have <u>yet<\/u><u> to receive<\/u> PU&#8217;s acceptance, you should participate in law course registration. You must release the courses once you receive PU&#8217;s acceptance by writing <u>immediately<\/u> to <u><a href=\"mailto:lawundergrad@nus.edu.sg\">lawundergrad@nus.edu.sg<\/a><\/u> (LLB) OR <u><a href=\"mailto:lawgrad@nus.edu.sg\">lawgrad@nus.edu.sg<\/a><\/u> (JD)<\/p>\n<p>Until you receive the PU acceptance letter and appropriate entry visa, we advise that you do not purchase flight tickets or make accommodation arrangements.<\/p>\n<p><b>If your application is rejected by PU<\/b>, please inform the Law Student Exchange team at <b><a href=\"mailto:lawsep@nus.edu.sg\">lawsep@nus.edu.<\/a><\/b><b><a href=\"mailto:lawsep@nus.edu.sg\">sg<\/a><\/b> immediately to work out a personalised solution.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t\tCredit and Course Requirements\n\t<\/h3>\n\t<p>While on exchange, it is the <strong>student&#8217;s responsibility<\/strong> to ensure that credit requirements are met and appropriate courses are taken.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Law students are expected to enroll for a full workload, similar to a full-time (local) student at the host university. This constitutes the <strong>minimum &#8216;credit requirement&#8217;<\/strong>. By satisfying the minimum &#8216;credit requirement&#8217;, students will transfer an equivalent of <strong>20 NUS units per semester away<\/strong>. You will not be allowed to overload or underload during the SEP\/EP semester.<\/p>\n<p>Since the credits equivalent to the full workload differs at each PU, it is imperative that you <strong>check the <a href=\"https:\/\/law.nus.edu.sg\/global-programmes\/outgoing\/partner-universities-places-credit-requirements\/\"><em>Credit Requirements<\/em>\u00a0document<\/a> <\/strong>to ensure that you enroll in sufficient courses at your allocated PU.<\/p>\n<p>Students who do not meet the credit requirements will not be able to transfer sufficient credits upon return. This will have implications on their workload in subsequent semesters and\/or on-time graduation from the LLB\/JD programme.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Please read the following sections for details.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"javascript:void(0);\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-0\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-0\">A. Notes on Minimum Credit Requirements while on Exchange<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-0\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-0\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Some host universities may recommend a reduced workload for exchange students as part of their general onboarding advisory. This arrangement does not apply for NUS Law students &#8211; NUS Law has established an understanding with each of our partners for full workload arrangement. NUS Law students must follow our NUS Law&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/law.nus.edu.sg\/global-programmes\/outgoing\/partner-universities-places-credit-requirements\/\"><em>Minimum Credit Requirements<\/em><\/a> instead.<\/p>\n<p>Students on Exchange Plus programme should check with host institution on the credit requirement for the fulfilment of the LLM.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"javascript:void(0);\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-1\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\">B. Important Guidelines for Course Selection during Exchange<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-1\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>Law compulsory courses\u00a0<u>cannot be satisfied<\/u>\u00a0by any course on exchange.<br \/>\n\u200b<\/li>\n<li><strong>You must not read course(s) on exchange which cover substantially\u00a0the same ground as course(s) you already have read at NUS or which\u00a0you intend to read when you return to NUS.\u00a0<\/strong>Likewise, courses completed on exchange may preclude you from taking similar courses at NUS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nWhere there are doubts concerning exchange courses and courses completed at\u00a0NUS, clarification should be sought for with Vice-Dean (Student Affairs) by\u00a0sending an email to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:lawsep@nus.edu.sg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsep@nus.edu.sg<\/a>.\u200b\nWhere there are doubts concerning exchange courses and NUS Law courses that\u00a0you intend to read for future semesters at NUS, clarification should be sought\u00a0directly from the respective convenors with a copy to Academic Affairs at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:lawundergrad@nus.edu.sg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawundergrad@nus.edu.sg<\/a>\u00a0(LLB) and\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:lawgrad@nus.edu.sg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawgrad@nus.edu.sg<\/a>\u00a0(JD).\u200b\nWhen seeking clarifications, you should provide the following details:\u200b\n<ul>\n<li data-charcodes=\"167\" data-font=\"Wingdings,Sans-Serif\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"270\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Student&#8217;s Full Name\u200b<\/li>\n<li data-charcodes=\"167\" data-font=\"Wingdings,Sans-Serif\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"270\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Host University\u200b<\/li>\n<li data-charcodes=\"167\" data-font=\"Wingdings,Sans-Serif\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"270\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Course Name\u200b<\/li>\n<li data-charcodes=\"167\" data-font=\"Wingdings,Sans-Serif\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"270\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Course description (course details, contact hours, number of teaching weeks\u00a0etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"javascript:void(0);\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-2\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-2\">C. Mapping of Courses towards Civil Law Requirement<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-2\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-2\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>LLB students may satisfy the Civil Law course requirement by reading <strong>a course that covers tort, contract and\/or property law from a civil law\u00a0perspective<\/strong> while on exchange. This is subject to course mapping approval.<\/p>\n<p>Students\u00a0on JD and LLB-LLM Exchange Plus programme should complete\u00a0your Civil Law requirement at NUS in view that the SEP semester or LLM\u00a0year will be your final graduating semester\/year. This mitigates the risk of\u00a0delayed graduation in instances where PU may not offer Civil Law courses\u00a0and\/or failure to pass the course leads to non-fulfilment of civil law course.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on Civil Law requirement, please refer to the degree requirements for <a href=\"https:\/\/law1a.nus.edu.sg\/student_matters\/llb_prog\/deg_req.html\">LLB<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/law1a.nus.edu.sg\/student_matters\/grad_prog\/jd_deg_reqm.html\">3-yr JD<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"javascript:void(0);\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-3\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-3\">D. Reading of Non-Law Courses during SEP<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-3\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-3\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>4-year LLB students<\/strong>, under the 40 units non-law rule applicable to cohorts from AY2021\/22 onwards, may read <strong>up to 2 non-law courses per semester<\/strong> away. Each non-law course taken during SEP will be mapped back to 5 NUS units, regardless of credit hours at the PU. This works out to a maximum transfer of 10 units of non-law per semester.<\/p>\n<p>Students must note that non-law units obtained during exchange will count towards the overall cap of 40 units non-law. This cap must not be exceeded.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the limit on Level-1000 courses is 60 units, including\u00a0compulsory law courses which take up 40-44 units. Non-law courses\u00a0pitched at Level-1000 will count towards this limit.\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<p>For reference to the rules on non-laws, please refer to the weblink here: <a href=\"https:\/\/law1a.nus.edu.sg\/student_matters\/llb_prog\/non_law_subjects.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/law1.nus.edu.sg\/student_matters\/llb_prog\/non_law_subjects.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>JD and LLB-LLM students may only read law courses according to their degree requirements.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t\tCourse Selection and Approval\n\t<\/h3>\n\t<p>Students going on exchange are required to seek and <strong><u>obtain approval for all courses<\/u><\/strong> they intend to read during exchange at PU by <strong>submitting course <\/strong><strong>mapping via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/myedurec.nus.edu.sg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EduRec<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0This should be done <u>prior to the start of their exchange semester<\/u>\u00a0in order to ensure that students have sufficient number of credits and meet relevant requirements during their exchange. The EduRec user guide for course mapping is available at the <a href=\"https:\/\/myportal.nus.edu.sg\/studentportal\/eservices\/all\/myedurec.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NUS\u00a0Student Portal<\/a>\u00a0(under &#8216;Other Functions &gt; Submission of Course Mappings for External Study Program&#8217;).<\/p>\n\u200bLaw students <b>must use Law SEP Codes for mapping of courses <\/b>on exchange. Download the <a href=\"https:\/\/law.nus.edu.sg\/global-programmes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2026\/02\/Law-SEP-Course-Mapping-Guide.pdf\"><strong>Law Course Mapping and SEP Codes Guide<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for instructions and\u00a0examples. You are advised to follow the procedures outlined\u00a0 closely to ensure successful submission.\u200b\nYou will be notified via\u00a0EduRec\u00a0whether your courses are approved or if there\u00a0are any problems with your course selections. Any revisions after approval\u00a0has been given (e.g.\u00a0due to changes in course offerings or add\/drop process\u00a0at PU) should also be resubmitted through EduRec. You can re-use the Law SEP codes accordingly. You need not remove the unwanted courses which were\u00a0approved earlier.\u200b\n<b>Note: It is the responsibility of students to ensure that the courses read\u00a0<\/b><b>on exchange are approved and that the total credit requirement set by\u00a0<\/b><b>NUS Law is adhered to. The same should be reflected on the transcript\u00a0<\/b><b>subsequently issued by partner university.<\/b>\n<h3>\n\t\tCompletion of Exchange\n\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"javascript:void(0);\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-0\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-0\">A. Submission of Official Transcripts from PU &#038; Credit Transfer\u200b<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-0\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-0\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\tStudents must ensure that the official transcript issued by PU reflects the\u00a0same courses approved in\u00a0EduRec.\u200b\nFor PUs that issues official transcripts digitally, you should promptly download\u00a0and retain a copy before your student account with PU closes. A copy of this\u00a0official transcript, together with an appropriate grade legend, must be sent to\u00a0the Law Student Exchange office at <a href=\"mailto:lawsep@nus.edu.sg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsep@nus.edu.sg<\/a>.\u200b\nFor PUs that issues hardcopy official transcripts, you should arrange for it to\u00a0be sent to your home address where possible. You should then forward a copy\u00a0of the official transcript with its grade legend to the Law Student Exchange office at <a href=\"mailto:lawsep@nus.edu.sg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsep@nus.edu.sg<\/a>\u00a0upon receiving it. Some PUs will send a copy of the\u00a0official transcript to NUS on student&#8217;s behalf, please provide the PU with the\u00a0address below.\u200b\nIt will be prudent to download and retain a digital copy of your results obtained\u00a0from the PU&#8217;s relevant student portal once available. This can serve as a\u00a0record in the event of delays in transcript issue\/delivery.\u00a0\u200b\u200b\nThe faculty will process the credit transfer on your behalf when your exchange\u00a0transcript is received. Failure of Courses \/ Insufficient Credits<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-1\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\tYou will receive credit for courses taken (and passed) at PU while on\u00a0approved exchange\u00a0programmes.
