Under this arrangement, students will complete three years at\u00a0NUS and then go to Melbourne to read an LLM for one year. Upon successful completion of the LLM at\u00a0Melbourne, NUS law students will graduate with an LLB (Hons) from NUS and an LLM from Melbourne.\u200b\nFor more information, please visit the University of Melbourne, Melbourne Law School website\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/study.unimelb.edu.au\/find\/courses\/graduate\/master-of-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a>.\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCurriculum Matters\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<b>Course Preclusions &amp; Pre-requisites<\/b>\u200b<br \/>Students interested in the Melbourne LLM should not undertake NUS courses that are\u00a0similar to\u00a0the LLM\u00a0programme. Students are responsible to check the LLM course requirements\/offerings when registering for\u00a0NUS electives in Year 3.\u200b\n<b>Credit Transfer<\/b>\u200b<br \/>A total of 8 coursework subjects are required for successful completion of the Melbourne LLM.\u200b\n8 coursework subjects read at Melbourne towards the LLM will count towards the NUS LLB degree as\u00a0NUS 40 Units. Courses completed at Melbourne do not count towards the LLB Class of\u00a0Honours.\u200b\n<b>Start\/Completion of Melbourne LLM and the Conferment of NUS LLB degree<\/b>\u200b<br \/>NUS students who successfully completed 8 coursework subjects of Melbourne&#8217;s LLM will be awarded\u00a0NUS LLB.\u200b\nNote that the academic year of Melbourne is Feb &#8211; May. Students have the option of starting the LLM\u00a0programme\u00a0in Winter intake (early June) or the regular semester 2 (July).\u200b\nWith a July start, the LLM is expected to complete around June\/July. As such, you should expect that you\u00a0would not graduate in time with your LLB cohort in June\/July. Rather, depending on when your results\u00a0from Melbourne are released, the earliest you can expect to be conferred your LLB degree would be the\u00a0end of August and you will only be eligible to attend the Commencement ceremony in the following year.<br \/>\nWith a June start, LLM is expected to complete around May and students can expect a good chance to\u00a0be eligible for NUS graduation in June\/July.\u200b\nStudents should consult and work closely with Melbourne in the selection of courses and corresponding\u00a0assessment deadlines so that NUS can confirm the completion of your LLM credits in time for\u00a0graduation.\u200b\n<b>Implications to enrolment for Part B at SILE in view of late degree conferment<\/b>\u200b<br \/>The Part B course normally starts in mid-July each year. Students must have graduated with the LLB\u00a0in\u00a0order to\u00a0be eligible for the Part B course. In view of possible late degree conferment, NUS Law has\u00a0worked with SILE to institute an arrangement where students would be able to apply and enroll for Part\u00a0B provisionally, subject to receiving certification from NUS by the end of July that students have passed\u00a0the LLB. NUS Law has also worked with Melbourne to send us early notification of your results as soon\u00a0as they are available so that NUS is\u00a0in a position\u00a0to issue this certification within the deadline (which\u00a0SILE has stressed is a strict deadline). These arrangements have been designed to allow students to\u00a0enroll for Part B in their graduation year.\u200b\nHowever, students should note that\u00a0there is a small chance that even with the above arrangements, the\u00a0information from Melbourne may not be received in time for NUS to meet SILE&#8217;s &#8216;end of July&#8217; deadline. In that\u00a0unlikely event, students\u00a0may have to then start Part B in January the following year. The risk is\u00a0small\u00a0but it does exist.\u200b\u200b\n<strong>Implications of Late Degree Conferment on Eligibility for JLC Positions and Academic Prizes<\/strong>\u200b<br \/>NUS Law has also worked with the Legal Service Commission (&#8220;LSC&#8221;) to institute an arrangement\u00a0where students would be considered for Justices Law Clerk (&#8220;JLC&#8221;) positions based on their &#8220;provisional\u00a0Class of\u00a0Honours&#8221;. Each student&#8217;s &#8220;provisional Class of\u00a0Honours&#8221; and &#8220;provisional ranking&#8221; within the\u00a0cohort will be determined by the student&#8217;s cumulative weighted numerical average which have already\u00a0been &#8220;locked in&#8221; at NUS Law.\u200b\nThis arrangement will allow qualifying students to participate in the same set of JLC interviews as their\u00a0cohort. JLC offers will be subject to: (a) the student enrolling in SILE Part B together with his\/her cohort;\u00a0and (b) eventual conferment of the LLB in August. Note that LSC rules do not permit JLCs to start work\u00a0until they have been conferred their degrees. This means that, although students will essentially be able\u00a0to join the\u00a0programme\u00a0in the same year as their cohort, their actual work start date may be delayed by a\u00a0month or two.\u200b\nPlease note, however, that the &#8220;provisional Class of\u00a0Honours&#8221; and &#8220;provisional ranking&#8221; will NOT entitle\u00a0the student to consideration for Academic Prizes that are based on such\u00a0criteria, and\u00a0will NOT be\u00a0reflected in NUS Law&#8217;s official website or other official listings.\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEligibility &#038; Application\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Applications for the programme are open from <b>Friday, 17 October 2025 <\/b>till <strong>Monday, 8 December 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Only students in Law 2 qualify to apply. The application outcome of the SEP and the LLB-LLM\u00a0programmes\u00a0are normally made\u00a0known sometime in January. At that point, if you are selected for both\u00a0programmes, you must decide\u00a0which\u00a0programme\u00a0you will opt\u00a0for\u00a0and you must withdraw from the other\u00a0programme. You cannot hold\u00a0on to both options.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>Thus, students who accept an exchange place will be precluded from pursuing the LLB-LLM programme. Students who withdraw from the exchange to pursue the LLB-LLM\u00a0programme\u00a0where the\u00a0final selection by Melbourne is not confirmed, will be allowed to re-apply for exchange in Year 3 to go\u00a0on exchange in Semester 1 of Year 4, should their Melbourne applications be unsuccessful. Re-application for exchange at this point will be subject to available places and it falling within the\u00a0possible application window period of partner universities.<br \/>\u200b<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-charcodes=\"216\" data-font=\"Wingdings,Sans-Serif\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"280\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><b>What are the selection criteria?<\/b>\u200b\n<p>The selection criteria include your academic grades, character and personal statement. In some instances, you may be called for an interview by both faculty and Melbourne.
