The National University of Singapore Faculty of Law will host the International Legal Ethics Conference (ILEC XI) on 9-11 December 2026 on the theme of Continuity and Transformation. The foundational values that anchor lawyers and judges – integrity, independence, accountability – must now withstand forces of profound transformation. Technological disruption through legal tech and AI, the instability of political and regulatory institutions, stubborn access to justice issues, the demands of transnational practice, and the intensifying commercialization of the profession all test the boundaries of professional identity and responsibility.
ILEC XI invites critical reflection on how legal actors can balance continuity with innovation – how lawyers and judges can preserve the moral and institutional coherence of the law while responding constructively to change. We welcome proposals which examine these tensions using theoretical, empirical, and comparative perspectives, and which explore ethical, regulatory, and societal responses to transformation in legal practice and adjudication.
