Book Launch: Environmental Law in Singapore
The Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law (APCEL) at NUS Law organised a book launch on 3 October 2019 to celebrate the publication of Environmental Law in Singapore by Adjunct Associate Professor Joseph Chun ’91 (NUS Law) and Adjunct Professor Lye Lin Heng ’73 (NUS Law).
The event started with an overview by the book authors and was followed by a keynote from Professor Tommy Koh ’61 (Ambassador-at-Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs), a panel discussion and book signing. The topic for the panel discussion was “Regulating Transits and Imports of Endangered Species after Kong Hoo (Private) Limited v Public Prosecutor: What Have We Learned from the Rosewood Case and Where Do We Go from Here?”. Both authors were joined on the panel by Ms Anbarasi Boopal (ACRES), Mr Vinayagan Dharmarajah (BirdLife International) and Dr Madhu Rao (Wildlife Conservation Society).
The Book
Environmental Law in Singapore is an essential reference on environmental law and regulation in Singapore. The book explains the subject in the context of international and regional environmental law and the Singapore legal system. It explains and critiques the applicable legal principles, legislative provisions and cases. Topics covered go beyond the traditional areas of criminal and civil liabilities in environmental regulation (such as pollution control and waste management), to also include environmental governance issues such as procedural and substantive environmental rights.
