Dean’s List & Awards Ceremony 2017

One of the happiest occasions hosted annually at NUS Law is the Dean’s List and Awards ceremony. At this event, top students are rewarded for their hard work and academic achievements.

At the ceremony held on 27 September, 78 students accompanied by their parents and loved ones, received awards and prizes from the Dean, Professor Simon Chesterman. This year for the first time, several prize donors joined the Dean on stage to present the prizes that they sponsor.

The auditorium was filled with a sea of faces beaming with pride as the Dean began his speech by asking students to stand and applaud their parents & families, to thank them for the support, care and love.

Addressing the students in his speech, Professor Chesterman says, “If there’s one thing that you can take away from today, it is don’t think that because you have succeeded, that any failure will scar you for life. Prepare yourself for setbacks and difficulties. When you go out to the work force, your academic achievements are only a part of your character, a part of your ability, a part of what will hopefully make you a success.”

About 100 students made it to the Dean’s List, and close to 40 awards and prizes were given out, with some students winning multiple awards. The newest addition to the list of prizes is the “Prize in Aviation Law and Policy” donated by Scoot, and won by Jonathan Wah Yi Liang ’17. Posing for a photo onstage with Professor Alan Tan ’93, Jonathan was asked to flash his prize of an air ticket for the camera, and rumour has it that he will be heading to Honolulu! Some of this year’s winners had the honour of being presented their awards and prizes by the respective donors. Donors present at the event included:
