EW Barker Centre partners IPOS in 7th Developments Series
The EW Barker Centre for Law & Business (EWBCLB) partners IPOS International in co-presenting the 7th Developments in IP Law Series to a full capacity audience again this year.
This flagship programme for IP professionals covers key developments in intellectual property law in Singapore and the UK, and where relevant, developments in the EU, US, and Australia are also discussed in this series, which typically runs in the first quarter of the year at the Suntec City Convention Centre.
NUS Law had a strong showing at the Trade Marks/Passing Off session on Tuesday 4 February 2020 with Professors David Tan (Head (Intellectual Property), EWBCLB) and Ng-Loy Wee-Loon ’87 speaking on developments in the United States and Singapore respectively. Professor David Llewelyn (Managing Director, David Llewelyn & Co LLC) covered developments in the UK and EU while Mark Lim ’94 (Director/Chief Legal Counsel (Hearings & Mediation), IPOS) provided an update on trade mark proceedings before IPOS in the year 2019.
The session concluded with an animated panel discussion facilitated by Tan Tee Jim, SC ’79 (Senior Partner, Lee & Lee) and joined by JC Dedar Singh Gill ’83 (Judicial Commissioner, Supreme Court of Singapore).
The four main domains of IP are covered in four half-day sessions across January and February 2020: Copyright, Patents, Trade Marks/Passing Off and Breach of Confidence/Privacy and Data Protection. Like its previous sell-out editions, this 7th edition returns with a line-up of prestigious speakers, comprising distinguished academics, experienced practitioners, industry representatives, and representatives from the public sector.
