Jennifer Marie retired after having spent more than 39 years in the Legal/Judicial Service of Singapore – first as a deputy public prosecutor and then as the deputy presiding judge in the State Courts (Singapore).  For her invaluable contributions to the administration of justice, she was awarded various public administration medals – the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 1999; the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2016 and Public Administration (Gold- Bar) in 2022.  In recognition of her advocacy and legal skills she was appointed Senior Counsel in 2010.

Advanced Criminal Legal Process

Ms Marie graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1983.  Subsequently, she obtained a Master of Laws degree from the University of London in 1990.   She attended the Programme for Management Development at Harvard Business School in 2000.

As the Chief Prosecutor in the Criminal Justice Division of the AGC, she guided and mentored close to 100 DPPs and reviewed all cases slated for prosecution in the High Court. She was involved actively in the training of the prosecutors and law enforcement officers and first came up with the training curriculum that has been updated and used over the years to train prosecutors.

In August 2011, after her reposting to the courts as Registrar, she managed the administration of the lower courts and was heavily involved with the career development and training of both judicial officers and court administrators. In the 11 years at the courts, she led many key initiatives. On areas ranging from internal governance to access to justice. She played a key role in overseeing the implementation and construction of the new State Courts Towers – a project that concluded in 2019.An iconic court building that is equipped to meet Singapore’s judicial needs in the years to come.

She retired in June 2022 and has continued with her appointments as a Senior Mediator at the Singapore Mediation Centre and also a Healthcare Mediator.

She also sits on various boards and pursues her passion in helping the marginalised and providing opportunities for children from less privileged backgrounds. In 2018, she launched the Joachim Education Programme with the support of the Archdiocese of Kumbakonam. The programme provides for the educational needs of about 00 children from the rural areas in the Kumbakonam District in Tamil Nadu.
