Lei CHEN’s research areas focus on property law, contract law and dispute resolution from Chinese and comparative perspectives. He obtained two LLB degrees in Chinese law (ECUPL) and Common law (London) respectively, together with LLM and PhD degrees from two mixed jurisdictions (Scotland and South Africa). As a principal investigator, he obtained three General Research Funds (GRFs) from the Hong Kong Research Grant Committee and a number of other external research grants, such as ERASMUS+ and Japanese Governmental Grant.

Lei Chen is on the Law Panel of Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020 run by Hong Kong Research Grant Committee. He has supervised 11 PhD/JSD students, 8 of whom are senior Chinese judges.

In his professional practice, Lei Chen is a seasoned Chinese law expert witness and international arbitrator listed in HKIAC, AIAC, BAC, CIETAC, SCIA, KCAB, DIAC, SHIAC, CAA, THIA, and ADNNRC.
