Faculty Level Scholarships (For Current UG Students)
To commemorate the 110th year anniversary of the founding of the firm, Allen & Gledhill LLP established the Allen & Gledhill Scholarship to support financially needy and academically meritorious NUS Law students.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must fulfil the following conditions:
- To undertake the LLB programme in consecutive academic years.
- The recipient should be in the top 25% of his cohort and has to be in the top 50% of his or her cohort for the third year in order to receive the second tranche of the Scholarship award.
Award
The Scholarship award shall be Ten Thousand Singapore Dollars (S$10,000) per year for two (2) years, totalling Twenty Thousand Singapore Dollars (S$20,000), for the Scholarship recipient’s 3rd Year and 4th Year undergraduate programme studies respectively.
Subject that: the award of the scholarship sum of S$10,000.00 per AY shall be given only once to a Scholarship recipient for each of the above-mentioned undergraduate studies years; and the Scholarship recipient has to undertake the LLB programme in consecutive academic years.
This Scholarship was established by Ashurst LLP and ADTLaw LLC and is intended to fund undergraduate scholarships in NUS Law for academically meritorious law students.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must:
- be Singapore citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents;
- be rising second or third year students pursuing the Bachelor of Laws degree at the Faculty; and
- be placed on the Dean’s List in the year of application.
Award
The value of the scholarship will be S$12,000. One scholarship will be awarded per academic year and is only tenable for the academic year in which it is awarded.
The scholarship recipient will be offered the option to participate in a 3-4 week internship with either Ashurst LLP or ADTLaw LLC.
This scholarship was established by NUS Law alumnus Mr Bala Reddy ’80, LLM ’90, to help high-potential students from low-income families at the Faculty.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must:
- be a Singapore citizen;
- be undergraduates in either their second, third or fourth year of study, enrolled in the four-year LL.B. Programme at the Faculty;
- have applied and be eligible for University-administered financial aid; and
- possess good academic results.
Award
The number and quantum of Scholarships to be awarded each year is subject to the University’s spending limit and availability of funds, whichever is lower (estimated at one scholarship of at least $5,000).
The Scholarship is tenable only for the Academic Year in which it is awarded.
This scholarship was established by Mr Chandra Mohan K Nair ’76 and his wife Ms Susan de Silva ’83 to recognize meritorious candidates who exemplify noble personal qualities such as being honorable, service to the community and acting with personal courage, integrity and idealism.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must:
- be Singapore citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents;
- be rising second, third or fourth year full-time undergraduate students pursuing the Bachelor of Laws degree at the Faculty; and
- possess good academic results.
In addition, candidates should possess the following qualities and submit a cover letter to elaborate how they exemplify them:
Being honourable;
Service to the community, especially in relation to the legal profession and NUS;Acting with personal courage and integrity; and Idealism, (the “Qualities”).
Award
The value of the scholarship will be S$10,000. One scholarship will be awarded per academic year and is tenable only for the academic year in which it is awarded.
The NUS Law Class of 1986 established a fund to provide scholarships to academically meritorious NUS Law students who are also financially needy.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must:
- be at least 18 years of age;
- be enrolled or accepted for enrolment in the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore; and
- have a per capita household income* not exceeding One Thousand Five Hundred Singapore Dollars (S$1,500.00).
(*Per capita household income = Total gross income per household ÷ No. of members in the household. Total gross income per household includes the income from parents, siblings, grandparents and other relatives in the immediate household as well as any income from government bodies or charitable organisations.)
In making its recommendations, the Selection Committee shall consider the candidates' academic record, financial circumstances and extra-curricular activities records.
Award
Each academic year until the fund is depleted, the Selection Committee will make such number of awards as it deems appropriate subject to the provision that the maximum amount in the aggregate that may be disbursed in any given year is Twenty Thousand Singapore Dollars (S$20,000.00).
Each award shall be up to Four Thousand Singapore Dollars (S$4,000).
A scholarship shall be tenable only for the academic year in which it is awarded but all awardees may re-apply in any subsequent academic year.
The scholarship was established through a generous gift from Ms Ella Cheong, one of the pioneers in the field of intellectual property in Asia. The scholarship is for academically meritorious NUS Law undergraduate students who are interested in the area of Intellectual Property Law.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must:
- be enrolled in the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore; and
- have taken at least two (2) Intellectual Property (IP) subjects and obtained a minimum B grade for those subjects in the year of application.
In making its recommendations, the Selection Committee has the discretion to consider the candidate’s academic records (in law school and pre-university) and extra-curricular activities records. Preference will be given to applicants with Intellectual Property related scientific background. Applications are open to Singapore citizens, Singapore permanent residents and international students.
Award
The expendable gift is to be used to award three (3) Scholarships per academic year.
Each scholarship will be valued at $10,000, to be disbursed in 2 tranches of $5,000 each. The disbursement of the first $5,000 will be upon selection. For disbursement of the second tranche of $5,000, the recipient must have completed two (2) more IP subjects and obtained a minimum B grade for those subjects.
The awards shall be used firstly to cover the scholarship recipient’s tuition fees for his/her undergraduate studies, and any balance will be used for living allowance.
In memory of the late Mr Harry L. Wee, his family made gift to NUS Law to establish the H.L. Wee Scholarship for high potential students who are keen in mooting.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must fulfil the following conditions:
- To undertake the LLB programme in consecutive academic years.
- Student must demonstrate an interest and gift for advocacy.
In making its recommendations, the Selection Committee shall consider the candidates' academic record, financial circumstances and extra-curricular activities records.
Award
The Scholarship award shall be Six Singapore Dollars (S$6,000). Each Scholarship is only tenable for the academic year in which it is awarded.
An anonymous donor made a generous donation to establish this endowed scholarship targeted at academically meritorious students at NUS Law.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must possess good academic results.
The Selection Committee’s decisions are final. The Selection Committee reserves the right not to award any Scholarship in any Academic Year, if there are no candidates who sufficiently meet the criteria.
Award
The expendable gift is to be used to award one Scholarship award to be given in Academic Year 2019/2020, valued at $10,000. In subsequent years, the number and quantum of Scholarships to be awarded each year is subject to the University’s spending limit and availability of funds, whichever is lower (estimated at one scholarship of at least $7,000).
The Scholarship is tenable only for the Academic Year in which it is awarded.
Stephenson Harwood established the scholarship in honor of NUS Law alumna Ms Lo Hwei Yen ’03, who passed away in the Mumbai terrorist attacks of 27 Nov 2008.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must:
- be at least 18 years of age; and
- be enrolled in the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore.
In making its recommendations, the Selection Committee shall consider the candidate’s overall academic records from his/her 1st to 3rd year LLB. The Selection Committee shall have the authority and discretion to make all decisions pertaining to the award of the Scholarships.
Award
One Scholarship per academic year will be awarded to an academically meritorious 4th year law student, based on the candidate’s overall academic records from his/her 1st to 3rd year LLB.
The Scholarship award shall be $6,000 to be used firstly to cover the Scholarship recipient’s tuition fees for the undergraduate LLB programme, and any balance will be used for living allowance.
The family of the late Mr Wee Chong Jin, the former Chief Justice, donated to NUS Law to support academically meritorious students who are active in community or charity work and also display a spirit of sportsmanship and collegiality.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must fulfil the following conditions:
- The recipients should be active in community or charity work.
- The recipients should also display a spirit of sportsmanship and collegiality.
- In making its recommendations, the Selection Committee shall consider the candidates' academic record, financial circumstances and extra-curricular activities records.
Award
The Scholarship award shall be Ten Thousand Singapore Dollars (S$10,000). Each Scholarship is only tenable for the academic year in which it is awarded.
Faculty Level Scholarships (For Freshmen)
Named after Mdm Nesadevi Sandrasegara, an alumna from NUS Law’s pioneer class of 1961, the Nesadevi Sandrasegara Scholarship was established to attract top talent to NUS Law.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must:
- be a Singapore citizen;
- be applying for, or have been offered, admission to a full-time undergraduate degree programme at the Faculty (excluding students in the Law and Liberal Arts Double Degree Programme offered by Yale-NUS College and NUS); and
- possess good academic results and have performed well during the Faculty’s admissions tests and interviews.
In making its recommendations, the Selection Committee may consider the candidate’s co-curricular activities records and community service pursuits.
Award
The Scholarship award will be a full-term scholarship valued at S$12,500 per Academic year, tenable for the normal candidature period of the Scholar’s undergraduate programme, subject to fulfilment of the conditions below. The sum of $12,500 may be pro-rated by Semester, depending on the normal candidature period of the relevant undergraduate programme.
The scholarship will be monitored and renewed each Academic Year provided the following conditions are met:
- the Scholar must be ranked within the top 80% of the cohort in each Academic Year;
- where applicable maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.5.
This full-term Scholarship was established by the Singapore Academy of Law and is intended for high-potential freshmen from low-income Singaporean families who have been offered admission to, or enrolled in, NUS Law.
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Scholarship, the applicant must:
- be a Singapore citizen;
- be offered admission to or be enrolled in the four-year LL.B. programme at the Faculty;
- have demonstrated financial needs by having applied, and being eligible for, University-administered financial aid; and
- possess good academic results and have performed well at the Faculty’s admissions tests and interviews.
In making its recommendations, the Selection Committee may consider the candidate’s co-curricular activities records and community service pursuits.
Award
The Scholarship award will be a full-term scholarship covering the following: (i) Tuition fees (after MOE Tuition Grant subsidy), tenable for all four years of the Scholar’s LL.B. Programme; and (ii) Living expenses of S$10,000 per Academic Year.
The scholarship will be monitored and renewed each Academic Year provided the following conditions are met:
- The Scholar must continue to have demonstrated financial needs throughout the period of studies by having applied, and being eligible for, University-administered financial aid each Academic Year; and
- The Scholar must be ranked within the top 50% of the cohort in each Academic Year.
- Upon award of the Scholarship, the Scholar will be offered the option to participate in an internship with the Donor, and to participate in the Donor’s working committees chaired by esteemed members of the Judiciary. In addition, Scholars will have the opportunity to meet and interact with leading practitioners and contribute to key developments.
NUS – Level Donated Scholarships
The C J Koh Scholarship was established in 1997 by the late Mr Koh Choon Joo, a retired lawyer. Scholarships are awarded each year to Law undergraduate students with excellent academic results.
The Dentons Rodyk Scholarship was established in 1987 by Messrs Rodyk & Davidson to promote legal education in Singapore, and as a gesture of gratitude to the University who has trained many of Rodyk & Davidson's partners and solicitors. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding fourth-year Law undergraduate students each year.
The Shook Lin & Bok LLP Scholarship was established in 1989 by Shook Lin & Bok LLP. Two scholarships are awarded each year to first-year Law undergraduate students with excellent academic results.

Other Conditions to be Noted
A Selection Committee shall be empowered to award the Scholarship. The Selection Committee may comprise of representatives from the Faculty and/ or donors.
The Selection Committee reserves the right not to award any scholarship, if there are no candidates of sufficient merit.
The Scholarship Selection Committee reserves the right to revoke or suspend the Scholarship at any time, if and when it deems fit. This could be due to one or more of the following circumstances:
- The conduct of the Scholar (past and present) comes under scrutiny; and/or the academic progress or performance of the recipient is considered unsatisfactory.
- Awardees must not concurrently hold any other form of free aid e.g. bursaries, scholarships or grants, without prior written approval from the respective awarding bodies and the Donor.
- The University reserves the right to demand a full refund of all monies expended under the Scholarship if the Scholar terminates prematurely his/her course of study at NUS Law or terminates or withdraws from the Scholarship, or if the Scholarship is withdrawn due to any disciplinary or legal offence.
