CALL FOR PAPERS

The conference will take place at the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore (NUS Law) on 10 and 11 December 2026. We welcome submissions of abstracts of not more 500 words including a short bibliography (5 references maximum). All submissions of abstract must be accompanied by a CV of not more than 1 page. Please send the abstract and CV to trail@nus.edu.sg. The submission deadline is 30 April 2026, 11:59pm Singapore time.

Authors whose abstracts are selected will be notified by early June 2026. They will be invited to present their papers at the conference. Selected papers of the highest quality will be considered for publication in the Singapore Journal of Legal Studies, the flagship peer reviewed journal of NUS Law. The Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & the Law (TRAIL) at NUS Law will book and pay for 3 nights of hotel accommodation for authors whose abstracts have been selected. If there is more than one author for an abstract, only one author’s hotel accommodation will be covered. All authors will be responsible for their airfare.

The conference welcomes theoretical, doctrinal, empirical, and interdisciplinary contributions from law, computer science, philosophy, political science, sociology and related fields. Topics of particular interest include:

  • AI Companions, Emotional Manipulation, and the Protection of Vulnerable Users
  • AI Model Welfare, Consciousness, and Moral Status
  • Governing Compute: Infrastructure, Sovereignty, and Geopolitical Competition
  • AI-Generated Evidence, Hallucinations, and the Administration of Justice
  • Comparative AI Regulation
  • Environmental Sustainability and AI
  • AI, Intellectual Property, and the Future of Creative Economies
  • Comparative Deepfake Law and the Governance of Synthetic Media
  • Open-Source AI: Innovation, Dual-Use Risks, and the Politics of Openness

Key dates for the conference are as follows:

  • Abstract deadline: 30 April 2026, 11:59PM
  • Notification of acceptance: Early June 2026
  • Confirmation of participation due: 30 June 2026
