David U. Socol de la Osa is an Assistant Professor at Hitotsubashi University’s Legal Innovation Department in Tokyo. His research focuses on the intersection of law, technology, and sustainability, with a particular emphasis on key sectors such as AI governance, critical mineral regulation, renewable energy transitions, and biosynthetic cellular agriculture. David holds a JD and LLM from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he also researched topics in Business and Public Policy at the Wharton School of Business. Prior to academia, he practiced law at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP, specializing in corporate law, particularly in cross-border transactions. David is an active participant in global academic dialogue, with research collaborations and visiting positions at leading institutions, including Carlos III University of Madrid and the University of Oxford. His work aims to foster ethical and effective governance frameworks in emerging technologies and global systems.
