
Chris BEVAN
Chris is Professor of Property Law having worked previously at Durham University and Nottingham University, UK. Chris was awarded the higher doctorate of Doctor of Letters (DLitt) in recognition of his ‘sustained, distinguished work of considerable scholarly impact’ and received his MA and BA (Hons.) from the University of Cambridge. His research interests centre on Land and Property Law broadly construed as well as housing and homelessness law. He has published widely on issues of modern land law, social housing and the legal regulation of homelessness. Chris is author of the acclaimed textbook, Land Law (5th edition forthcoming, 2026 with Oxford University Press) and was awarded the Lord Dearing Award for outstanding, world-class contribution to enhancing the student experience. Chris is Case Note Editor for the Conveyancer & Property Lawyer journal and, prior to entering academia, practised as a barrister specialising in matters of property, housing and family law.

He has published widely on issues of modern land law, social housing and the legal regulation of homelessness in leading journals including Modern Law Review, Law Quarterly Review, Cambridge Law Journal and Legal Studies. Chris is author of the acclaimed textbook, Land Law (5th edition forthcoming, 2026 with Oxford University Press). He is editor of Research Handbook on Property, Law and Theory (Edward Elgar, 2024) and Handbook of Global Perspectives on Homelessness, Law & Policy (Routledge, 2024); and co-editor of Law, Narrative and Masterplot: New Research Perspectives (Routledge, 2025).
