Legal Aspects of Paperless Trade
Professor Miriam Goldby is Professor of Shipping, Insurance and Commercial Law and Director of Research at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London. She was previously director of the Centre’s Insurance, Shipping and Aviation Law Institute (2019-2022) and founder and director of its International Shipping Law LLM (2013-2022). She is the author of Electronic Documents in Maritime Trade: Law and Practice (OUP), the second edition of which was published in 2019, and has published extensively in the fields of shipping, insurance and financial law.
She has received research funding from the British Academy, the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Lloyd’s of London and has contributed to research undertaken by the Bank of England on InsurTech and by the Law Commission on Anti-Money Laundering. She participated in the work of UNCITRAL WG IV – Electronic Commerce, which led to the adoption of the Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records in 2017. She undertook a part-time secondment to the Law Commission of England and Wales to work on the Electronic Trade Documents project (Phase 1 of the Commission’s Digital Assets Project) between November 2020 and March 2022.
