Max Weber Fellowship at the European University Institute
Ms Kanika Jamwal selected for the Max Weber Fellowship at the European University Institute

Our 4th year student, Ms Kanika Jamwal, has been selected for the Max Weber Fellowship at the European University Institute
The Max Weber Programme (MWP) at the European University Institute (EUI) is a unique postdoctoral programme in the historical, humanities and social sciences. It is open to applicants who are within 5 years from the completion of their PhD, from anywhere in the world, regardless of nationality. Renowned for its excellence, the programme is highly selective, accepting fewer than 5% of applicants for just 55–65 fellowships across the EUI’s academic units. Fellows benefit from an inspiring, multidisciplinary environment in the heart of Europe.
Ms Kanika Jamwal is a fourth-year doctoral candidate whose doctoral research undertakes a socio-legal inquiry into community-based water governance in India. Her research examines how informal institutions manage scarce water sources in rural areas.
A socio-legal researcher by training, Kanika’s research interests lie at the intersection of environmental law, climate change, and the emerging discourse on the rights of nature. Her research integrates legal analysis with empirical insights to understand environmental governance in practice.
Prior to commencing her doctoral studies, Kanika served as an Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School, where she taught courses in environmental law, climate change law, and international law. Her postdoctoral appointment under the Max Weber Programme will begin in September 2026.
Our heartiest congratulations to Kanika on this outstanding achievement!
