Fox Fellowship at Yale University

Mr Huang Fan Selected for the Fox Fellowship at Yale University

Our 2nd Year PhD student, Mr Huang Fan, has been selected for the prestigious Fox International Fellowship at Yale University for the academic year 2026-2027.

Established in 1988, the Fox International Fellowship is a yearlong graduate student exchange program between Yale and a select network of 21 world-renowned partner institutions. Its mission is to enhance mutual understanding between the United States and other countries by promoting scholarly exchange among the next generation of leaders. The fellowship is highly competitive, seeking outstanding individuals who demonstrate not only academic excellence but also a profound commitment to being "citizen scholar ambassadors"—researchers whose work offers insight into pressing global challenges. Fan’s selection is a testament to the exceptional quality of his research and his potential to contribute to this global mission.

Fan's research focuses on the Third World, legal argumentation, and international dispute settlement. In particular, he explores how the division between developing and developed countries has been used as an argumentative tool for legal reasoning in concrete disputes before international courts and tribunals. His work spans multiple fields, including international investment law, international trade law, international human rights law, and international climate change law. Prior to his doctoral studies in Singapore, Huang Fan obtained his LL.B. from China University of Political Science and Law, a Diploma from the University of Lisbon, an LL.M. from the University of Macau, and an LL.M. from Leiden University. His professional experience includes serving as a tribunal secretary in international arbitration, interning at the United Nations, and providing research assistance at various law schools.

As a Fox Fellow, Fan will spend ten months in residence at Yale University’s Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, starting in August 2026. During this period of immersion, he will have access to Yale’s extensive academic resources and intellectual community to advance his doctoral research.

We look forward to seeing him serve as an ambassador of our research community while building lasting connections within Yale’s global network of scholars.
