The Piracy Paradox: Can Imitation Spur Innovation?
NUS Law welcomed Professor Kal Raustiala, as speaker for this year’s Yong Shook Lin Professorship in Intellectual Property Public Lecture. The lecture titled “The Piracy Paradox: Can Imitation Spur Innovation? Reflections from the American Fashion Industry”, had over 150 members of the law and fashion industries attending the event. Organised in conjunction with this year’s IP Week, the event took place at NUS Law’s Bukit Timah Campus on 16 August 2016.
Long Service Awards 2016
Congratulations to NUS Law’s Long Service Award recipients!
The recipients were honoured by the faculty on 10 August 2016, for their dedication and hard work in moulding generations of NUS Law graduates.
Book Launch: Constitutional Interpretation in Singapore
The book Constitutional Interpretation in Singapore: Theory and Practice, edited by Assistant Professor Dr Jaclyn Neo '03 was launched at NUS Law on 26 July 2016. The book arose from a conference on constitutional interpretation held in 2015.
NUS Law Team Wins Nuremberg Moot Court Competition
Congratulations to team NUS Law for being the overall champions at the Nuremberg Moot Court Competition! Victor Leong ’16, Joshua Hiew ’17, Mehaerun Simaa ’16 and Hairul Hakkim ’16 won after defeating teams from the United States, Pakistan, Rwanda, the United Kingdom and Brazil. Joshua Hiew received the additional honour of being awarded Best Speaker for the Final Round.
NUS Law Excels at the International Negotiation Competition 2016
The NUS Law team emerged as 1st Runner Up in the recent International Negotiation Competition (INC) 2016. The team representing Singapore consisted of Too Fang Yi ’16 and Manek Minhas ’16 and was coached by Associate Professor Joel Lee.
Class of 1996 Reunion
On 23 July 2016, the Class of 1996 celebrated their 20th Anniversary with a reunion held at the NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House. More than 50 classmates attended the dinner for a fun and memorable night of catching up with old friends and reliving good times together! Dean Simon Chesterman, Associate Professors Lye Lin Heng '73 and Assistant Professor Yeo Hwee Ying '80 were also present to mingle with the class. Special thanks to Lyn Lee '96 for the Awfully Chocolate cakes which were enjoyed by all!
Class of 2001 Reunion
The Class of 2001 held their 15th Anniversary Reunion on 30 July 2016 at The University Club: Lounge & Dining Rooms. About 50 classmates gathered for a delightful afternoon of renewing ties and sharing stories past and present. They soon filled up the venue with much laughter and joy! The class was also delighted to be joined by current Dean Simon Chesterman, their former Dean Prof Tan Cheng Han '87, as well as their former Contract Law professor, Justice Andrew Phang '82.
