NUS Law alumni appointed to the Supreme Court

NUS Faculty of Law congratulates our alumni Judicial Commissioner (JC) Dedar Singh Gill ’83 and Mr Andre Francis Maniam ’90 on their new appointments. JC Gill has been appointed a High Court Judge from 1 August 2020, and Mr Maniam will begin his 2-year term as a JC of the Supreme Court from 4 May 2020.

JC Gill was appointed JC of the Supreme Court in August 2018. Prior to this, he was the Managing Director of the Intellectual Property Department at Messrs. Drew & Napier LLC. JC Gill was also previously appointed by the Chief Justice to manage the Intellectual Property (IP) list of the High Court and has worked on the implementation of the recommendations previously submitted by the IP Dispute Resolution Framework Review Committee to review the Intellectual Property dispute resolution system in Singapore.

Mr Maniam is currently a Partner at WongPartnership LLP and heads the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group. He has about 30 years’ experience as a lawyer, with the last 10 years as a Senior Counsel. His practice covers a wide range of subject areas including Administrative and Constitutional law, Arbitration, Bankruptcy and Insolvency, Building and Construction, Commercial and Corporate disputes, Cross-Border Trade, as well as Regulatory and Financial Crime matters. Mr Maniam sits on the Singapore International Mediation Centre’s panel of specialist mediators, as well as the panels of various arbitral institutes.
