General Information on NUS Faculty of Law (NUS Law)

Consistently ranked as the top law school in Asia and one of the very best in the world, the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law (‘NUS Law’) is dedicated to building a vibrant community and creating an environment that facilitates critical thinking and reflection on the fundamental legal issues confronting our interconnected world. The law school has more than 60 academic staff members from all over the world and more than 1200 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Apart from the LL.B. and J.D. programmes, NUS Law also offers double-degree programmes in law and business, law and economics, law and life sciences, and a concurrent degree programme in law and public policy (with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy). It has a vibrant postgraduate community of students working towards the LL.M. (with or without specialisation) and Ph.D. degrees. The research culture is strengthened by multiple centres of excellence and strong funding for a broad spectrum of legal scholarship.

Academic Positions

We welcome applications for full-time appointments at any of the following levels:

Professor: This tenured position is for academics who have acquired an international reputation at a sustained level for their research or education.
Associate Professor: This tenured position is for mid-level academics who have acquired an international reputation for their research or education.
Assistant Professor: This is an entry-level, tenure track position. Candidates are expected to have a doctorate in law or have submitted a completed doctoral dissertation for examination by the application deadline. Candidates should have a record of significant and rigorous published research or have the demonstrated potential to achieve this record. Candidates with minimal or no experience in academia should consider instead the Sheridan Fellowship: see the details here.

We welcome applications from qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds. We value scholarship employing a wide range of methodologies and in any field of law.

1 Curriculum Vitae

a Academic History:

b Employment History: List all academic and non-academic positions held
c Public and professional service.
d Honours and awards, including major invited addresses, elected membership in professional and learned societies, etc.
e Other relevant information.
2 A statement (maximum of 3 pages) of education philosophy and methodology. Applicants should attach evaluations on education from faculty members or students of the applicant's current institution, where applicable.
3 A statement (maximum of 3 pages) of major accomplishments in research, citing up to five (5) significant publications and explaining their significance. Please provide copies of up to three (3) of these contributions (in the case of books, reviews should be provided). For junior appointments, please provide transcripts of coursework leading to the highest degree(s) attained.
4 A complete list of publications, including page number ranges.
5 For applicants for appointment to Associate Professor or Professor with tenure, a list of four (4) external reviewers, their mailing and email addresses and one-page biography must be provided. Please do not nominate more than four external reviewers unless requested to do so. For applicants for appointment to Assistant Professor, a list of three (3) external reviewers, their mailing and email addresses and one-page biography must be provided. The applicant’s relationship to the reviewer (if any) must be indicated. The external reviewer should not be the applicant’s co-author or co-editor
6 Applications are considered twice a year, in January and July. For those applying for January consideration, applications must be submitted by the deadline of December 31st; for those applying for July consideration, applications must be submitted by the deadline of June 30th
7 Both those shortlisted and those not shortlisted should receive an email from the Secretary of the Faculty Search Committee no later than three months following the deadline for that round’s applications.
