Sheridan Fellowship
The National University of Singapore Faculty of Law (NUS Law) is pleased to invite applications for our next intake of Sheridan Fellows. These full-time positions are intended to serve as a bridge between either undergraduate study or work in the legal profession and a tenure-track academic position with a strong foundation in Singapore law.
Successful candidates will be appointed for two years on a competitive salary. You will teach half of the standard faculty workload, typically by joining one of the team-taught compulsory subjects. The reduced load will free up considerable time for research, supported by faculty mentors who will read and comment on your work, and advise on publication avenues. Sheridan Fellows are expected to actively participate in faculty events, including presenting papers in the Faculty Research Workshop or other suitable avenues.
At the conclusion of the two-year period, you may be encouraged to pursue a doctorate, after which you will return to the Faculty and be assessed for appointment as an Assistant Professor on the tenure-track. (Candidates who are interested in pursuing a doctorate immediately should consider the Overseas Graduate Scholarship scheme.)
Applicants should have: (i) an outstanding undergraduate LLB degree; and (ii) demonstrated potential to produce high quality research. Applicants may also have an LLM degree (or its equivalent) but this is not essential. Successful candidates who do not have an LLM degree will be required to complete an LLM and will generally be expected to obtain a doctorate, prior to being appointed to the tenure track.
Applicants who are interested in any areas of law and who deploy different research methodologies are welcome to apply.
NUS Law seeks excellence through the diversity of our faculty. We encourage applications by individuals who embody and embrace these values.
To apply, submit a letter of interest together with your curriculum vitae, transcripts of your results, and a list of at least three referees. Applications for Academic Year 2025 will open on 1 September 2024 and close on 31 October 2024. Applications should be submitted by email to lawfsc@nus.edu.sg. Applications will be treated with the strictest confidence. Applicants must complete the NUS Personal Data Consent for Job Applications, which is to be submitted together with the application. Candidates who are short-listed are expected to attend an interview.
A candidate who has previously made one unsuccessful application for a Sheridan Fellowship may reapply in a later round. However, the maximum number of applications any candidate may make is two.
