Law & FinTech Conference 2025 (31 July – 1 Aug)
On 31 July and 1 August 2025, the EW Barker Centre for Law & Business (EWBCLB) and the Centre for Banking & Finance Law (CBFL) at the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law held the Law & FinTech Conference 2025. The conference was convened by Associate Professor Christian Hofmann, National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law, who is also the Deputy Director of CBFL.
The conference was opened with a keynote address by Professor Henry T. C. Hu, Professor and Allan Shivers Chair in the Law of Banking and Finance at the University of Texas on “The Bitcoin-Gold False Equivalence”.
The two-day conference brought together legal scholars, practitioners, and regulators from New Zealand, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and Asia – including Singapore, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, and India. The regulatory and doctrinal challenges posed by technological innovation in the financial sector were discussed across six thematically structured panels, namely: (i) payment services; (ii) central bank digital currencies (CBDCs); (iii) artificial intelligence in finance, (iv) decentralised finance (DeFi), (v) cryptoasset regulation and insolvency; and (vi) fintech-driven transformations in banking. Over the course of the conference, presenters and participants engaged with emerging legal frameworks, enforcement issues, and conceptual questions at the intersection of financial law and digitalisation across the globe.
EWBCLB and CBFL would like to acknowledge the insightful and valuable contributions of the conference presenters and the rigorous exchange of ideas over the course of the conference and beyond. The presenters were (in alphabetical order):
