September 17, 2022 | Research

NUS Faculty of Law, EW Barker Centre for Law and Business, and Centre for Banking & Finance Law are proud to join a consortium of universities (Bocconi University, Cambridge University, Columbia Law School, Edinburgh Law School, EUI, Goethe University, Harvard Law School, Lund University, Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, Oxford University, Rutgers Law School, Tilburg University, University of Amsterdam, University of Hamburg, University of Leeds, University of Zurich, Vanderbilt Law School, and Yale Law School) to host the “Global Junior Scholars Workshop in Corporate Law” commencing AY 2022/2023. In its third iteration, the virtual workshop aims to provide junior faculty (i.e., pre-tenured researchers) an avenue to present their work in a collegial setting.

Each week, a junior scholar presents a paper for discussion and critique, with papers circulated a week before the workshop. After every 3-4 weeks of these workshops, senior scholars (termed “Keynote Speakers”) present papers at the workshop.

The workshop attracts some of the biggest names in Corporate Law across the world, with multiple keynote speakers from top universities. In 2020, the workshop invited speakers such as Ian Ayres (Yale Law School), Mariana Pargendler (FGV and NYU), John Armour (Oxford), Jill Fisch (Penn), and Marco Pagano (Bocconi). In 2019, the workshop hosted speakers such as Alan Schwartz (Yale) and Roberto Romano (Yale).

On the participant end, the workshop attracts some of the brightest young names in corporate law such as Anna Christie (Edinburgh), Fernan Restrepo (UCLA), Roberto Tallartia (Harvard), Alex Lee (Northwestern), Amanda Rose (Vanderbilt), Martin Schmalz (Oxford), and Suren Gomtsian (Leeds).
