SSLT 2025: Trials of Sovereignty: Mercy, Violence and the Making of Criminal Law in British India

March 26, 2025

CLT is pleased to have Dr. Alastair McClure for the seminar, “Trials of Sovereignty: Mercy, Violence and the Making of Criminal Law in British India,” as part of our Singapore Symposium in Legal Theory (SSLT) series. Conducted on 26 Mar 2025, Dr McClure through a study of large-scale amnesties, the prerogative powers of pardon, executive commutation, and judicial entencing practices, argues that discretion represented a vital facet of colonial rule.
