The next Law & Religion (L&R) Speaker Series will be based on Dr Jeffrey A. Redding’s book ” A Secular Need: Islamic Law and State Governance in Contemporary India “. The Panel will discuss the book’s exploration of India’s non-state system of Muslim dispute resolution—known as the dar-ul-qaza system and commonly referred to as “Muslim courts” or “shariat courts”.

Speakers:

  • Dr Dian A H Shah (Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore) – Moderator
  • Dr Jeffrey A. Redding (Melbourne Law School, The University Of Melbourne)
  • Dr Matthew Nelson (Asia Institute, The University Of Melbourne)

This Speaker Series is part of the CALS L&R Cluster and is organised by the Centre for Asian Legal Studies (Faculty of Law, NUS).  The L&R Cluster aims to lead ground-breaking research on the interaction between law and religion both in Asia and globally utilising contextual and inter-disciplinary approaches. To find out more, click HERE.
