Description

The traditional understanding of the creation, manufacture, reproduction, dissemination and sale of works, objects, artefacts, physical and virtual items is evolving with the development of new technologies. Artificial intelligence, extended reality, Web3, quantum and neuromorphic computing are just some of the disruptive technology trends that are posing doctrinal challenges for intellectual property laws that govern the triumvirate of rights – copyright, trademarks and patents. In addition, the nascent legal regime for protection of traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expression will have to find its footing amidst the accelerating pace of technological advancement.

This two-day international seminar assembles legal scholars, practitioners and policymakers from around the world to discuss and debate about the way forward in the next decade.

It is co-organised by the two research centres at the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore (EW Barker Centre for Law & Business and Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & the Law) and the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre, University of Oxford. The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will be delivering the keynote address to kickstart the proceedings.
