In this seminar, Prof Schäfer will talk about how effective banking and finance laws can help to bring various stakeholders together in a developing economy to materialise innovation and entrepreneurship that bring about economic development, expounding on some of the theories in the book that he co-authored, ‘Solomon’s Knot: How Law Can End the Poverty of Nations’.
About The Speaker
Professor Schäfer is professor emeritus at the University of Hamburg, where he was professor of economics, co-founder and director of the Institute of Law and Economics and chairman of the Ph.D. program in law and economics. He is also an affiliate professor of law and economics at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany. Professor Schäfer is the author of numerous books and articles on the economic analysis of civil law and on law and development, including “The Economic Analysis of Civil Law”, a co-authored textbook that has been translated into English, Spanish and Chinese, and “Solomon’s Knot: How Law Can End the Poverty of Nations” (with Robert Cooter) that widely discusses law and development issues. Schäfer was awarded the scholar prize of the European Association of Law and Economics. From 1995-2012 he was coeditor of the International Review of Law and Economics.
