FULL BIOGRAPHY

In Residence

15 July 2020 to 14 July 2024

Mr Arvin is a partner with 108-year-old law firm Wee Swee Teow LLP; an Arbitrator with the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board, the Beijing Arbitration Commission, and the Chinese Arbitration Association – International; and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK). He holds law degrees from Harvard (LL.M.) and the LSE (LL.B. Hons. 1st), and the DipSing from NUS. He relishes the chance to do sustained thinking and writing in this supportive and distinguished community, and to contribute to the research output of the EWBCLB. He will be focusing on energy financing at EWBCLB. Having fought energy financing arbitrations intensively as lead counsel in the past few years, against good opponents including Queen’s Counsel and major international law firms, he is seeking to be more reflective about his experience, and to produce good research output in the process.  He will also be working on a couple other minor side projects with a view to publication, on auditor’s duties (with a former Herbert Smith Freehills partner, now a third party funder), strategems at the interface of arbitration and insolvency (with a partner from BlackOak LLC, an insolvency and special situations boutique firm), and at the interface of employment and arbitration (with the APAC General Counsel of the Adecco Group).
